Tara Locklear's unique and highly individual jewelry pieces, made with anything ranging from cast cement to recycled skateboards, stem from a passion for industrial materials and social culture.
Where do you draw inspiration for your work?
My inspiration comes from watching people in their daily environments, from where I live to everywhere that I travel. Wether for work or for pleasure, seeing the architecture, colors, shapes and textures of all the cities and spaces is truly magical.
What was the first thing you made?
My hand chased and riveted self portrait out of mixed metals of me with a gold tooth. lol!
If you won the lottery what would you do with the money?
Pay off all of my debt, build a home and studio with my husband, move my parents closer and help my community build a skatepark with a funded skate camp. I always want to be able to give back to the community that has given to me.
Who are your favorite artists/makers?
This is a hard one because I feel there are so many talented individuals. Definitely my top three are Donald Judd, Aurelie Guillaume and Os Gemeos.
What song/artist is #1 on your playlist?
Chance the Rapper
